Sexual Behavior Treatment Services

What Sexual Behaviors Do We Treat? Our treatment program specializes in the treatment of problem sexual behaviors.  These are sexual thoughts and acts which cause distress and are often harmful or upsetting to others. This may mean sexual abuse to children or disabled adults, sexual violence, impulsive public displays, obscene phone calls, or excessive desire for various forms of sexual stimulation. Problem sexual behaviors usually exist in a climate of guilt, shame and emotional isolation. They often take a serious toll on a person's self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and community standing. When they result in direct harm to others, there may be legal consequences which add to the existing problems.

What Can Be Done About Problem Sexual Behaviors? The first step is to identify the nature of the problem. A careful initial assessment is made by a qualified specialist. The goal of the assessment is to provide a comprehensive picture of the whole person. Problem sexual behaviors are considered in the individual, family and larger social context. There may also be related legal problems. A detailed report of the initial assessment can often be helpful when going before the court.

What Kinds of Treatment Are Offered?
Northeast Clinical Specialists provides a full range of specialized individual, family and group therapy services to meet the person's individual needs. Following the initial assessment, recommendations for service are discussed. More than one type of therapy may be suggested. There are often family members and other loved ones with concerns or problems to be addressed. The person may have particular preferences about therapist, office locations, and appointment times. Specialized therapy groups are often used to help overcome the isolation which often accompanies these embarrassing problems. Every effort is made to provide a comprehensive service plan suited to particular individual needs.

Who Is Eligible For Services? Evaluation and therapy services are offered to adults and children of all ages.
